Questions people ask before they book
Do I need to see a chiropractor?
Not necessarily. Many episodes of back or neck pain ease within a few weeks with normal activity. It's worth getting evaluated if pain is limiting what you can do, keeps coming back, has lasted more than two or three weeks, or came with tingling, numbness, or weakness. If you have any of the warning signs on our conditions pages — bowel or bladder changes, numbness in the groin, progressive weakness, fever, or a major injury — see a physician or urgent care first.
Will the adjustment hurt?
Most people don't find adjustments painful. You may hear a pop, which is gas releasing inside the joint. Some people feel mild soreness afterward, like after a workout. Dr. Brandon explains each step first, nothing happens without your OK, and there are gentler techniques if you'd rather not have a traditional adjustment.
What happens on the first visit?
A conversation about what's bothering you, an evaluation of how you move and what hurts, an explanation of what Dr. Brandon found, your options, and your decision about what happens next. Plan on about 60 minutes.
Do I need X-rays?
Usually not on the first visit. Imaging is ordered when the exam suggests it would change what we do, or when there's a history of injury or other specific concerns. If Dr. Brandon recommends imaging, he'll explain why first.
Can I come in if I've never been to a chiropractor?
Yes — that describes many of our new patients. Tell us when you book and Dr. Brandon will start by walking you through everything.
Do you accept Medicare?
Yes. Medicare covers manual spinal adjustments provided by a chiropractor when they're medically necessary; it does not cover exams, imaging, or other services from a chiropractor, and those would be your responsibility. We'll tell you the exact amounts before your visit.
The no-charge consultation and exam is for new self-pay patients. If you have Medicare, NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid, or another federal or state health program, your visit is billed under that program's rules, and you'll know your cost before anything happens. If you have private insurance, the exam is billed to your plan and normal copays apply — text us a photo of your card with the word BENEFITS for a free benefits check first.
Do you accept insurance?
Coverage varies by plan; text us a photo of your card at 848-301-1515 for a free benefits check before you book.
Is there a membership?
Membership is $169 a month, month to month — one visit a week, cancel with 30 days' notice, and a 3-day right to cancel after signing. Prefer to pay once? A paid-in-full annual membership is 10% off ($1,825).
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes you can move in. Athletic wear is ideal; jeans and a T-shirt are fine. You won't need to change.
How long is a visit?
First visits take about 60 minutes. Follow-up visits are typically about 15 minutes, or longer when needed.
How quickly can I be seen?
If you're in significant pain today, call us and we'll do our best to fit you in.
Can you help with my condition?
We evaluate and care for musculoskeletal problems — back, neck, sciatica, shoulder, hip, headaches that come from the neck, sports injuries, and stiffness. For anything outside that scope, or if the evaluation suggests you need a different kind of care, we'll tell you and point you to the right provider.
What if I'm nervous?
Say so. It's common, and it changes how the visit goes: more explanation, slower pace, gentler options, and no pressure to do anything you're not comfortable with.
What if I've already tried physical therapy or medication?
That's useful information, not a strike against you. Bring what you can about what you tried and what happened. Sometimes a different approach helps; sometimes the right answer is a referral. You'll get an honest read either way.
Can I call before making an appointment?
Yes. Call or text 848-301-1515 with any question, including "is this the right place for me?"
Is chiropractic care safe?
For most people, side effects are mild and short-lived — soreness, stiffness, or tiredness for a day or two. Serious complications are rare. Tell us about any history of stroke, blood-clotting disorders, osteoporosis, cancer, or spinal surgery, and about any medications, so care can be adapted. Neck adjustments in particular are always discussed first and never done without your OK.
FIT Stretch and biofeedback
What is FIT Stretch?
One-on-one assisted stretching and performance coaching, led by Jim Goetz, CSCS, in the same building as FIT Clinic. See the FIT Stretch page.
Is FIT Stretch chiropractic care?
No. FIT Stretch is assisted stretching and performance coaching; chiropractic care at FIT Clinic is provided by Dr. Michael Brandon, DC.
What is HRV biofeedback training?
One-on-one training that shows your heart rhythm live on a screen while you learn a slow breathing pace that shifts it. It's a wellness and performance service, not medical or psychological treatment.
Are FIT Stretch and biofeedback covered by insurance?
No. Both are self-pay. Chiropractic care with Dr. Brandon is billed to most major plans and Medicare.
I'm a chiropractic patient here. Can I add FIT Stretch or biofeedback?
Yes. They're separate and optional. Ask Dr. Brandon what makes sense alongside your care.
