FIT Stretch: Assisted Stretching in Colts Neck
One-on-one assisted stretching, led by a former pro-team strength coach, with a chiropractor in the same building.
Tight hips after a long drive. A golf swing that stops short. Shoulders that won’t reach overhead the way they used to. FIT Stretch finds where you’re restricted, stretches you further than you can safely go on your own, and finishes with the strength work that helps you keep what you gain.
- Led by Jim Goetz, CSCS, former strength and conditioning coach with the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers organizations
- At 8 Merchants Way in Colts Neck, the same building where Dr. Michael Brandon, DC, practices
- First session: 50 minutes, $59
- Free parking in front of and behind the building
You're in the right place if…
- You used to touch your toes. Now you're not sure you could.
- Your hips feel locked after a long drive or a day at a desk.
- Your golf swing, serve or throw has lost some of its turn.
- You train hard, and recovery takes a little longer every year.
- You stretch on your own, but it never seems to stick.
- Nothing's injured. You just want to move the way you used to.
If something hurts (sharp pain, pain that wakes you at night, numbness or tingling, or a recent injury), start with an evaluation instead. See where it hurts or book a first visit with Dr. Brandon.
What assisted stretching is, in plain English
You lie back and relax while a coach moves you into each stretch, holds it, and fine-tunes the angle. Because you aren’t also holding yourself up or balancing, you can usually go further, and more precisely, than you can on your own.
Much of a session uses contract-relax stretching, also called PNF: you gently push against the coach’s hands for a few seconds, then relax and ease into a little more range. It’s hard to do well by yourself, and long-term studies find that contract-relax and slow, held stretches build more range than bouncing or swinging stretches do (Konrad et al., 2024).

Measure, stretch, strengthen, re-test
- Measure. We start with a short movement screen and write down the numbers: how far your hips, hamstrings, back and shoulders move, left and right. Your first session also includes a 3D body scan (Fit3D) for posture and symmetry.
- Stretch. A one-on-one assisted stretch built around what the screen found. You set the intensity; say “less” and it's less.
- Strengthen. Two or three simple moves that teach your body to use the new range. Stretching makes you looser; strength is what makes looser useful.
- Re-test. We measure again before you leave, and every four weeks, so you're working from numbers, not guesses.
You leave with your numbers and a 10-minute routine for the days in between.
| Left | Right | Re-test | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hip flexion | |||
| Hip rotation | |||
| Hamstring (straight-leg raise) | |||
| Mid-back rotation | |||
| Shoulder reach overhead | |||
| Shoulder rotation |
What we write down at your first session. The numbers are yours to keep.
Questions worth asking before anyone stretches you
Assisted stretching isn’t a licensed profession, so training and standards vary a lot from place to place. These are the questions we’d ask, and our answers.
Who's actually stretching me, and what's their background?
FIT Stretch is led by Jim Goetz, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist who coached with the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers organizations and USF football, and who also completed chiropractic school.
Sessions are with Jim or a coach he trains and supervises.
What happens if something hurts, or you notice something that doesn't look right?
You control the intensity, and we stop the moment you ask. Before we start, we ask about surgeries, joint replacements, bone density, pregnancy and anything you’re being treated for, and we change or skip stretches to fit. If something you tell us sounds like it needs a doctor’s eyes, we’ll say so plainly. Dr. Michael Brandon, DC, practices in the same building.
Do you measure anything?
Yes. Range of motion before and after, written down, and re-tested every four weeks so you can see the trend.
Will I leave with something to do on my own?
Yes. Every session ends with a short routine, usually three moves and about 10 minutes.
What does it cost, and what am I agreeing to?
Prices are listed on this page.
Your first session is one session, and there’s nothing to sign.
If you continue, plans are month to month with 30 days’ notice to cancel, or 10% off paid in full for a year.

Meet Jim Goetz
Jim played college baseball at the University of Tampa, then spent his early career as a strength and conditioning coach with the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Buccaneers organizations and USF football. He later completed chiropractic school and co-founded Functionised here in Colts Neck. He has also worked as a performance coach for professional boxers, and he wrote Heel Yourself, the free book on this site.
At FIT Stretch he brings what he learned coaching professional athletes: measure first, work on what’s actually limiting you, and build strength into every session.

Tight, or wound up?
Some tightness isn’t only in the muscles. When stress runs high, a lot of people brace all day without noticing: shoulders up, jaw set, breathing high in the chest. If that sounds familiar, our HRV biofeedback training teaches your body to downshift, and shows it happening on a screen.

Questions people ask
Does assisted stretching hurt?
It shouldn't. You'll feel a strong stretch, and you decide how strong. Say “less” at any point and we ease off. Some people feel mildly sore the next day, as they would after a new workout; it usually fades within a day or two.
How is this different from massage?
Massage works mainly on muscles, pressing and kneading while you stay still. Assisted stretching moves your joints through their range and uses your own muscle contractions to gain more. Plenty of people do both.
Is FIT Stretch the same as stretch therapy?
Some places call assisted stretching “stretch therapy.” FIT Stretch is assisted stretching and performance coaching. It isn't physical therapy or chiropractic treatment, and it isn't a substitute for an evaluation if something hurts.
How often should I come?
Once a week is a good place to start. Range builds with consistency; studies of stretching programs show gains after two or more weeks of regular practice (Konrad et al., 2024). Your take-home routine does a lot of the work in between.
Can I come after surgery or a joint replacement?
Usually, once your surgeon has cleared you for normal activity. Tell us the surgery and the date; we follow your surgeon's precautions and skip anything they've ruled out. If you're still in rehab, keep your physical therapist in the loop.
Can I do FIT Stretch while pregnant?
Yes, with your OB's or midwife's OK. Ligaments are looser during pregnancy, so we use gentler ranges and positions that are comfortable for you.
Do you take insurance?
FIT Stretch is self-pay and isn't billed to insurance. Chiropractic care with Dr. Brandon is separate, and most major insurance plans and Medicare are accepted for it.
Do I need to be flexible already?
No. Being stiff is the usual reason to start, and every position is adapted to where you are today.
Can my teenager come?
Ages 12 to 17 are welcome with a parent or guardian in the room.
